Delivering a Baby in Macau
You have a choice of either public or private care when it comes to delivering your baby in Macau. Kiang Wu is a private facility and a maternity package will cost approximately Mop $30,000 for a birth with no complications. The price will be higher if any surgery is required.
If you are a Macau ID holder, there is no cost for delivery at the public hospital, Conde S. Januario. However, if you are not a Macau resident, there is a Mop$ 3,000-$4,000 fee for services.
Many expectant couples choose to go to Hong Kong to have their babies because of the greater choice of doctors, specialists and hospitals. If you choose to have your baby at a public hospital in Hong Kong, the obstetric package is $39,000. You do need to register at the Government Maternal Clinic as soon as possible as each hospital has a quota for non-residents. If you do not have a confirmed booking and deliver at a public hospital, the maternity package is $48,000.
If you choose the private hospital route, hospital fees can be in the mid to high range. Again, it’s important to register at your preferred hospital as early as possible since spaces fill up quickly. Most private hospitals also require that you put down a deposit, ranging from HK$10,000-20,000.
Here is a list of private hospitals in Hong Kong and the price range (approximate) for maternity packages. The cost will depend on whether the birth is natural or a C-section, the number of days you are in hospital and the type of room you choose (3-7 person ward, 3 person room, 1 person room or luxury room). Note that doctor’s fees are usually separate from the maternity package.
